About

Welcome to my website. My research is on security, with a focus on US, UK, and Australian foreign policy (so, AUKUS), especially contemporary counter-terrorism (after 9/11). But I’m a bit of a generalist and have also written about health security, gender, and popular culture.

I work as Professor of Global Security Challenges at the University of Leeds, where I am Pro-Dean for Research and Innovation in the Faculty Social Sciences, and Editor of The British Journal of Politics and International Relations. I have published six books, over thirty articles, and several chapters, as well as other bits and pieces. My research has been funded by the ESRC, AHRC, Leverhulme Trust, and EU. And my work has led to requests for expertise from various parts of government e.g. the Foreign Affairs Select Committee. You can download several of my older articles on the publications page and nearly all new ones are open access anyway (e.g. via my Google Scholar). I’ve been lucky enough to co-author with Jason RalphMichelle BentleyLee JarvisKatharine WrightMatt McDonald, Sir Mike Aaronson, Rob Saunders, Eglantine Staunton, Natalie James, and Ty Solomon – do check out their work too!

Outside of work, I’m a keen runner and even keener Arsenal fan. But mainly I look after a 3- and 7-year old, who can often be found running around in Arsenal shirts.
